Sites I Like to Haunt

In no particular order here are 9 of my favourite websites:

1) Thesaurus.com
This site is, to me, super obvious for any modern writer. I have total respect for those doing it old school with a print book thesaurus, it’s just not the way for me. When I’m writing this site is always up. I never know when I’m going to be reaching for a different way to say something.

2) Smashwords
Smashwords is an amazing site for ebooks. With so many authors on there giving ebooks away for free (yours truly included), it’s a great place to find new authors and test them out without a cost to you. Once you’ve found someone you like, maybe they have more than 1 work available. Bonus – the site is very user friendly and super easy to navigate.

3) Goodreads
Goodreads is a fantastic site to connect with your favourite authors as well as other people who share your love for reading. There are forums and groups for every writing and reading topic imaginable and if you can’t find a group or forum on something you’re passionate about, you can create one!

4) & 5) Facebook and Twitter
What can I say? I love people and these sites are very much about people. I enjoy interacting with people, learning, and discovering new things to love based on friends and followers recommendations.

6) Wattpad
Another great site to discover new writers! There are tons of short stories and other people releasing books a chapter at a time. I tend to get lost on this site for hours. It’s easy to navigate and find stories in the genres that interest you. This site is really cool for anyone nervous about showing their writing to people, because you can enjoy the anonymity of hiding behind a screen name. Plus you get feedback from other users of the site.

7) Angel Messenger
This one’s just for fun. You can get computerized angel card readings in different spreads. For those who have never seen angel cards they contain positive messages of love and light. You’ll never receive any dark information from angel cards. Although I do seem to keep getting the “you need exercise” card! Haha!

8) 10 Reasons why 2013 Will Be the Year You Quit Your Job
Despite the 2013 in the title, this can be applied now. I love this site for inspiration. I was at a point in my life where I knew I had to move forward with my heart. Any time I’m struggling with my decision (money stress sometimes makes me question myself), I go back to this article and feel better.

9) 16 Things I Know are True but Haven’t Quite Learned Yet
This site, you’re going to have to check out for yourself. It’s life made beautiful, its motivational and puts things into perspective in a very simple and straight-forward manner. This is another site I like to revisit when I’m struggling with any aspect of life.

I am a huge movie lover (and all things story-related), but I left off the Cineplex website because it’s local and the traffic on this website is such a beautiful combination of international people.

Please feel free to leave your favourite website(s) in the comments section!

With Love and Gratitude until next time,
TJ Shortt
